At a glance

A general-purpose email marketing and marketing automation platform for SMBs with a drag-and-drop builder, audiences, automations, landing pages, and reporting. Not ecommerce-first; Shopify integration has been intermittent (notably the 2019 break and later re-integration via Shopify Inbox/third-party connectors).

What operators say

  • Extremely simple and easy to use. Very straightforward design.

    G2 (Tom B.) · 2025-08

  • There is an error with my login. Contacting them is not an option (have tried many times and forms). Therefore, I am paying a monthly fee without being able to cancel.

Trustpilot (S van der Heide) · unavailable

  • Mailchimp provides many ready-to-use templates and its drag-and-drop editor is very easy to use.

Our verdict

The data points to a narrow profile: small businesses, newsletters, B2B, and service businesses that need general-purpose email with brand familiarity. Mailchimp's drag-and-drop builder and 300+ integrations remain category-best for non-ecommerce use cases; G2 (4.4 / 12,500 reviews) reflects the massive installed base, not the depth of ecommerce fit. Two operational facts matter more than the entry tier. First, billing counts unsubscribed and non-subscribed contacts toward the contact limit unless manually archived — typical 20-40% bloat over the merchant's mental list size. Same person in two audiences counts twice. Second, two pricing events landed in 2026: the free plan was cut from 500/1000 to 250/500 effective February 17 2026, and existing-customer prices on legacy accounts went up 11-13% on the first billing cycle after April 13 2026 (per Benchmark Email's analysis). Both move the math against staying on Mailchimp for serious ecommerce. For Shopify DTC brands needing product-catalog sync, real-time behavioral triggers, and revenue attribution, this is the wrong tool — Omnisend at $16/mo or Klaviyo at $20/mo both ship ecommerce-grade depth Mailchimp doesn't have. Trustpilot is negative-skewed with cancellation and login complaints; G2's 4.4 average hides a bimodal distribution between newsletter-happy users and ecommerce operators who outgrew it.
