Signifyd is a commerce-protection platform whose defining feature is a financial guarantee against fraud chargebacks. This guide covers how that guarantee actually works on Shopify.

How the guarantee works

Signifyd’s Guaranteed Fraud Protection does something most fraud tools do not: it takes financial liability. When Signifyd approves an order and that order later turns out to be fraudulent, Signifyd covers the chargeback — the financial loss moves from your books to theirs. It integrates natively into the Shopify checkout workflow (Shopify App Store, one-click setup via partner integrations), making approve/decline decisions in real time with automated representment to recover chargebacks that do occur.

The strategic value: high approval rates with low false positives, plus your ops team is freed from manual fraud review. Beyond the core guarantee, Signifyd adds chargeback recovery, intelligent returns protection, instant refunds, and payments optimization.

The pricing model

Signifyd does not publish tiers. Pricing is a percentage of approved order value (varying by vertical, AOV, and volume), and crucially you are only billed when orders are approved — orders declined as fraud cost you nothing. That alignment is the model’s strength: Signifyd only earns when it lets revenue through. See the Signifyd pricing breakdown.

The honest caveats

Three things to weigh. There is limited transparency on order-rejection reasoning — when Signifyd declines an order, you do not always get a clear why. The operating cost is high for SMBs, so the guarantee makes most sense at meaningful AOV and chargeback exposure. And there are coverage gaps on certain alternative payment methods — confirm your payment mix is covered before relying on the guarantee.

Who this is for

Signifyd fits mid-market and enterprise / Shopify Plus merchants with high AOV, high chargeback exposure, or large international order volume — electronics, luxury, home, and grocery especially. For a low-volume store, the operating cost likely outweighs the chargeback risk; Signifyd is a tool for stores where fraud is a measurable line item.
